Solid Walnut Furniture: Craftsmanship and Form at Noyer

Noyer – Tidløs Elegance og Dansk Håndværk i Valnøddetræ

A dark American walnut surface creates an immediate contrast in a light room. Against pale walls and blonde floors, the chocolate-brown timber defines clear boundaries. The straight and wavy grain lines give large surfaces a visible rhythm that light woods rarely provide.

At Noyer, this material is paired with a distinct geometric principle. Rather than standard squared edges, our pieces feature opposing 45-degree chamfers and faceted contours. These opposing 45-degree angles accentuate the timber's grain along the edges.

Joinery Rooted in Valby, Copenhagen

Noyer was founded in 2013 by carpenter Janus Larsen and cabinetmaker Nikolaj Hviid. The company takes its name from the French word for walnut tree, reflecting a dedicated focus on solid American black walnut (Juglans nigra).

In our combined workshop and showroom in Valby, Copenhagen, design and production happen in the same space. American black walnut is a dense hardwood that remains workable for fine joinery. To read more about our background and approach to workshop production, visit our About us page.

From Dining Tables to Daily Accessories

Our work spans both large furniture pieces and compact kitchen items. Large dining tables such as the JN01, coffee tables like the JN02, desks, and storage pieces share the same faceted language as our chopping boards and magnetic knife racks. You can explore the entire range across our complete furniture and accessory collection.

Tables are typically made to order with a production time of 4 to 6 weeks, and can be customized to special measurements.

Living with Natural Walnut

Unlike lighter woods such as oak or beech, solid walnut develops a warm, lustrous patina over time rather than heavily darkening. An oil finish penetrates the open pores rather than sitting on top as a film, protecting against moisture without masking the wood's tactile texture.
