When storage lifts off the floor, the geometry of a room changes. Unbroken floorboards run straight to the skirting board, corners remain clear for cleaning, and the eye reads the boundary of the room at the wall rather than at the front edge of a heavy case piece. Wall-mounted cabinets create functional shelf and surface space in an entryway, living room, or bedroom without interrupting foot traffic.
At Noyer, we build each piece from solid American walnut in our workshop in Valby, Copenhagen. The dark grain and warm tones give each piece a visible presence against lighter walls, while the space beneath maintains visual calm across the floor.
Concealed Stability: The French Cleat System
A solid hardwood cabinet carries substantial weight on its own, and that load increases once shelves hold dinnerware, books, or vinyl records. How a cabinet meets the wall determines whether it stays secure and level over years of daily use.
We mount our wall-hung pieces using a concealed French cleat. The system uses interlocking 45-degree bevelled rails: one rail fastens securely to the wall, while the mating profile is built into the back of the cabinet. When the cabinet slides down onto the rail, gravity locks the two bevels together. This distributes the weight horizontally across the wall rather than concentrating strain on direct screw points, keeping the piece flush to the wall surface without exposed angle brackets or visible hardware.
Wall-Mounted Cabinet JN18: Curved Profiles and Daily Capacity
While standard wall storage typically relies on rigid box frames with sharp outer corners, the Wall-Mounted Cabinet JN18 uses a softened, curved silhouette. Measuring 97.5 cm wide, 80 cm high, and 40 cm deep, the unit features doors constructed from individual vertical walnut profiles that create subtle vertical shadow lines across the front.
Behind the slatted doors, a black compact density fibreboard (CDF) back panel sits behind two solid walnut shelves on each side. The 40 cm depth comfortably accommodates everyday tableware, serving bowls, or art books without projecting too far into a dining area or hallway. Positioned at standing height, the top surface provides an accessible resting place for everyday objects.
Wall-Mounted Nightstand JN19: Compact Tambour Storage
Bedside storage and tight alcoves rarely demand large cases. The Wall-Mounted Nightstand JN19 measures 32 cm wide, 36.5 cm high, and 34.5 cm deep, scaled for spaces where an outward-swinging hinged door would block a walkway or bedside passage.
A flexible tambour door glides along the curved track of the walnut cabinet, rolling aside to reveal books, glasses, or bedside essentials. A central brass rod provides structural rigidity while adding a quiet metallic contrast against the timber. Because the footprint does not touch the floor, the JN19 also mounts comfortably as a compact wall-hung bar cabinet in a living space to hold selected bottles and glassware.
Turntable Cabinet JN26: Low Horizontal Proportions
Audio equipment and record collections require steady support and generous shelf dimensions. The Turntable Cabinet JN26 provides a dedicated horizontal anchor along the wall, measuring 1700 mm long, 375 mm deep, and 405 mm high.
Fitted with sliding bypass doors and understated brass details on the sides, the interior bays are proportioned specifically to house vinyl records and stereo components. The wide top surface provides a level deck for a turntable, keeping audio gear accessible while keeping wires and equipment neatly housed inside.
Planning Your Installation and Surface Care
When selecting and installing wall-mounted furniture, two practical considerations ensure dependable performance:
- Wall Substrate and Anchoring: Solid wood storage requires fasteners matched to your specific wall construction. Mounting directly into timber studs, solid brick, or concrete provides dependable backing for heavy contents. Hollow drywall installations require appropriate hollow-wall anchors rated for the combined weight of the cabinet and its contents.
- Material Character and Maintenance: Over time, solid American walnut patinates under ambient light. You can review detailed instructions on wood care on our care and maintenance page.
